Retro TV Commercials by Decade

Channel surf through vintage commercials and old TV ads from the 1950s through the early 2000s. The player starts on the Commercials channel and lets you change decades, years, or channels at any time.

Browse vintage commercials from six decades

Advertising styles changed with television itself, from black-and-white product demonstrations and jingles to cable-era toy spots, fast-food campaigns, movie tie-ins, and early web-era ads.

Old TV commercials by decade

80s TV commercials capture cable-era toy ads, fast-food jingles, home electronics, and brand campaigns built for a rapidly expanding channel lineup.

90s TV commercials mix food, toys, games, movie tie-ins, and pop-culture advertising from the last decade before streaming media.

2000s commercials follow television advertising into the early broadband era, with digital products, entertainment tie-ins, and familiar web-era brands.

Use the archive as a commercial-break guide

Choose the 1980s ad channel or 1990s ad channel for an advertising-only starting point. A general decade page includes other kinds of television, so select Commercials on its console if you want to hear only the ad breaks. Use the year buttons to narrow the pool, then Next or Random to sample eligible recordings.

How to find an old commercial you remember

  1. Start with clues: the brand or product, a few words from the slogan or jingle, the country where you saw it, and an approximate year. If the date is uncertain, try the neighboring decade too.
  2. Open the published recording search and enter a brand, title, year or category. Try 2001 commercials to combine a year with a subject, or fewer words if nothing matches. Search checks the listed titles, years, categories and uploader names, not spoken audio or every clip in the TV console. If JavaScript is unavailable, browse the decade lists or use your browser's Find in Page.
  3. Check the detail page's title, duration and uploader before playing. A single advert and a compilation of commercial breaks are different formats: a long compilation may contain the ad you remember without naming it in its title.

The console has decade, year and channel filters, not a full-text slogan search. Its dates are browsing labels, not proof of an advert's first airing; the YouTube upload date may be much later than the broadcast. We cannot promise that a particular campaign or complete ad break is available.

If you can identify a missing recording, send a video suggestion with its public source link and the clues you used. For a clip that will not start, use the playback troubleshooting guide or choose another recording.

Original commercial breaks or a recreated TV mix?

A recording described as with original commercials (WOC) is intended to preserve a programme together with its original ad breaks. A compilation may instead assemble adverts from different broadcasts. Our channel surfer switches between separate YouTube recordings; its playback order does not reconstruct a particular station's historical schedule.

If the original broadcast context matters, check the uploader's description for a station, recording date and whether the programme is complete. A year in a title alone does not establish that the adverts aired together. For cartoons mixed with advertising, read the Saturday morning viewing guide before choosing a recording.

How the commercial channel works

Channel Surf Time Machine organizes public YouTube embeds into decade and channel filters. Press Power or Next to tune a clip, use the year keys to narrow the era, and switch channels whenever you want a different kind of broadcast material.
