Classic TV Sitcoms by Decade

Channel surf classic TV sitcoms, old sitcom clips, and vintage television comedy from the 1950s through the early 2000s. The player starts on Comedy, and you can change decades, years, or channels at any time.

Browse classic TV sitcoms across six decades

Revisit vintage television comedy, familiar characters, memorable ensembles, and retro sitcom clips through one decade-based classic comedy channel.

Choose a sitcom clip or a stand-up performance

The Comedy channel includes more than sitcoms: you may also find stand-up sets and comedy performances. A sitcom follows recurring characters in a fictional situation; a stand-up set is a comedian addressing an audience. The shared channel label does not mean every clip is an episode of a series.

To choose before watching, open the video archive and check the title, decade, category and duration on a clip's detail page. Look for a show or episode name if you want a sitcom, or a performer's name and a stand-up title if you want a comedy set. A long duration alone does not establish that a recording is a complete episode.

For an example of the stand-up format, try Bill Engvall's 1990 Pair of Jokers set, a 13-minute performance published by Clown Jewels. It is a comedy set, not a sitcom episode.

Browse sitcom clips by era, not by a single series

Use this channel when you want to compare television comedy across decades instead of looking for one official episode guide. The decade keys change the era, and the related 1950s through 2000s pages give each period its own broader mix of television formats.

How the classic sitcom channel works

This page starts with Comedy selected. Press Power to begin, then use Next or Random to try another eligible clip. The decade links open a broader TV mix, so select Comedy again on that decade's console if you want to keep the comedy-only selection. See the playback guide if a clip is unavailable.
